We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for software engineers with strong Rust expertise, development environment setup experience, and careful attention to technical detail.
This role supports an exciting collaboration with a leading frontier AI research laboratory focused on improving environment setup and dependency management across open-source Rust projects.
Selected professionals will help configure development environments, resolve dependency issues, and ensure tests pass across a range of Rust codebases. This opportunity is especially well-suited to engineers with practical Rust experience, strong debugging ability, and comfort working across build systems, package dependencies, and project setup workflows in short-term, execution-focused technical environments.

Rust Environment Setup & Configuration
Configure development environments for open-source Rust projects
Help ensure codebases are correctly set up for execution, development, and testing
Support technically accurate setup workflows across a range of project structures
Dependency Resolution & Build Stability
Resolve dependency issues across Rust codebases
Help ensure packages, toolchains, and related project dependencies work reliably together
Support successful project execution by addressing configuration and compatibility issues with care and precision
Testing & Technical Quality Support
Ensure tests pass across various codebases
Apply strong attention to detail when debugging setup and execution issues
Help maintain technical quality through structured troubleshooting and reliable engineering support
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have
Strong expertise in Rust, ideally including at least 2 years of industry experience
Familiarity with setting up software development environments
High attention to detail
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Comfort working across open-source technical workflows involving setup, debugging, and execution support
Preferred Qualifications
Stronger industry experience beyond the minimum Rust background
Experience troubleshooting dependency and environment issues across multiple codebases
Ability to work quickly and carefully in short-term technical project settings
Comfort handling technical setup work that requires precision, consistency, and strong debugging judgment

Contract Details
Independent contractor role
Fully remote with flexible scheduling
Hourly compensation of $40–$63 per hour
Short-term project
Minimum commitment of 30+ hours per week
Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on project needs and performance
Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
