About the position

The Software Engineer I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions within Wilcore’s federal programs. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads, this individual contributes to building secure, scalable, and user-centered applications while learning the standards and practices of software engineering in a government contracting environment.

This position offers hands-on experience in Agile development, exposure to cloud-based systems, and an opportunity to grow technical proficiency while supporting projects that directly impact veterans and their families.

Responsibilities
• Develop, test, and deploy software features and enhancements based on project requirements.
• Collaborate with team members to design and implement scalable and maintainable code.
• Participate in code reviews to provide and receive constructive feedback.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and issues in a timely manner.
• Contribute to documentation of software design, development processes, and user guides.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 0-2 Years experience in software development
• Familiarity with one or more programming languages (React/React Native, TypeScript/JavaScript, Ruby/Ruby on Rails, NextJS)
• Understanding of software development lifecycle and basic knowledge of version control systems like Git.
• Basic knowledge of Agile development and collaborative software practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Good communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly.
• U.S. Citizenship required (due to federal contract requirements).

Nice-to-haves
• Internship or project experience in software development.
• Familiarity with web development frameworks and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with automated testing and continuous integration tools.
• Knowledge of database systems such as SQL or NoSQL.
• Exposure to Agile development methodologies.
