Would you like to become part of shaping complex software systems? In this role, you will design and build solutions with a strong focus on quality, performance, and long-term maintainability. Come and join us!

We are facing an exciting future with considerable growth and demanding changes, as we deliver advanced technologies and mission critical solutions for the defense and aerospace industry. Our systems provide security for people on land, at sea and in the air. Therefore, we are looking for multiple Software Engineers to become part of this journey and contribute to our overall purpose – securing people through advanced technology.

Your role in our team

As our new Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing robust, reliable, and maintainable systems. You will work with solutions built from the ground up, giving you a strong understanding of how they work.

In this role, you will develop backend and system-level functionality in Core Java, with a strong focus on performance and scalability. You will take ownership of components across their lifecycle, from design, implementation, and testing to release, and contribute to architectural decisions that ensure stability, quality, and maintainability.

You will become part of our Situational Awareness Maritime team, where we value transparency, aligned autonomy, well-structured solutions and take pride in understanding what we build. We work with sound engineering principles such as SOLID to support clarity and quality in everything we build. You will join a team with an open and supportive culture, where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and supporting each other are highly valued.

How you will make a meaningful contribution

Your key responsibilities include:
• * Work extensively with multithreading, concurrency, and performance-critical code
• Design thread-safe and scalable components with a strong understanding of JVM behavior
• Take ownership of components across their lifecycle — from design to long-term maintenance
• Collaborate with engineers and domain specialists across software and system disciplines
• Ensure high quality through testing, code reviews, and continuous improvement
• Support and mentor team members through knowledge sharing and technical discussions

Bring your world class expertise into play

You are fluent in English both in writing and verbal at a professional level. Danish is an advantage but not a requirement. Moreover, we are also looking for a new colleague with the following qualifications:
• * Experience working with Java, including strong Core Java fundamentals
• Solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, and synchronization
• Experience working with performance-critical or highly concurrent systems
• Strong foundation in object-oriented design and SOLID principles
• Experience building modular, maintainable, and testable systems
• Comfort working close to the platform, without heavy reliance on frameworks

Ideally, you also have:
• * Experience with desktop applications (e.g. Swing)
• Experience in high-reliability or regulated environments (defense, aerospace, medtech, etc.)
• Exposure to real-time or low-latency systems
• Experience working across teams or mentoring other developers

As a person, you are comfortable navigating complex domains and understanding how software fits into larger systems. You value clarity, simplicity, and long-term quality, and take a structured and thoughtful approach to your work. You are motivated by solving complex problems and are able to break them down into manageable parts. At the same time, you collaborate effectively with others, share knowledge openly, and take a proactive approach to both technical challenges and continuous improvement.

We are an international company representing world-class expertise, delivering complex and high-tech products. We value our colleagues and our meaningful contributions to securing people through advanced technology. You will also experience that we have a strong focus on your development, teaching you useful new competences and further strengthening current ones, both professionally and personally. Our company culture is autonomous and engaging, and we acknowledge the importance of flexibility in a great working environment.

When joining Terma, we promise that you will experience: Great people, challenging tasks, world-class expertise, and meaningful contribution in your daily work.
