• *About The Role**
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a highly skilled Staff Embedded Software Engineer to join our dynamic team based in Linthicum, MD. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a cross-disciplinary engineering team during the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of a critical national defense program. As a key member of our Software and Digital Technologies Organization, you will be instrumental in driving our enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives, utilizing cutting-edge practices such as Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile methodologies. This position requires a visionary leader capable of managing large-scale projects, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and automation. The successful candidate will have the chance to work on revolutionary systems that impact national security and shape the future of defense technology.
• *Qualifications**
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field with a minimum of 12 years of experience, or a Master's Degree with at least 10 years of experience, or a Ph.D. with 8 years of experience. An additional four years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, along with an active DoD Secret Clearance. The candidate must be able to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to starting the role. Proven experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM) managing Earned Value Management System (EVMS) projects for at least five years is required. Proficiency in C/C++, real-time embedded software development, and full software lifecycle management—including specification, design, implementation, debugging, and maintenance—is essential. Candidates should have the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments and possess strong leadership and communication skills.
• *Responsibilities**
• Lead and oversee cross-functional engineering teams during the EMD phase, ensuring project milestones are met effectively and efficiently.
• Manage staffing efforts for engineering teams, ensuring optimal skill distribution and resource coverage.
• Coordinate and prioritize bench time and engineering activities across multiple program initiatives to maximize productivity.
• Maintain and update Jira boards to track project progress, identify issues, and resolve blockers impacting team performance.
• Develop, monitor, and control project budgets and schedules, including adherence to Earned Value Management System (EVMS), critical path analysis, and workload forecasts.
• Communicate capability delivery schedules to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with program goals.
• Support proposal development and contribute to new program acquisition efforts through technical and management insights.
• Interpret and execute statements of work provided by program leadership, aligning team efforts with contractual requirements.
• Collaborate with suppliers and articulate project requirements clearly to ensure seamless integration and delivery of components.
• Brief internal and external customer leadership on project status, technical achievements, and upcoming milestones.
